Webliographies:

Technology

I have compiled a short list of websites which can better help you and your child insure internet safety.
  1.  NetSmartz Workshop is a great general catch-all for internet safety. Among other things, this site provides information on cyberbullies, a quick a list of safety tips, and ways to begin a discussion with your child on internet safety.
  2.  The FBI Kids Safety site offers a kid-friendly page to raise safety awareness. The website also includes games like crossword puzzles to help your child review the material covered.
  3.  Cyberbullying.gov provides information for parents on cyberbullying. This site specializes in identifying signs of and the effects of cyberbullying.
  4.  This Scholastic.com site not only provides guidelines for children's online safety, but also sorts by age to ensure the most appropriate specifications.
  5.  Webonauts from PBS kids is a GREAT tool. Webonauts takes a game format to help kids learn safe internet practices while also promoting appropriate ways to work together with friends. Once your child has completed their mission they can even print out a certificate!
  6. On Guard Online also provides good information on online safety for a variety of ages on a great expanse of subjects.

Social Studies

Additionally, this list provides several resources that will help you and your child as we work on social studies in the classroom.
  1.  Web Rangers is arguably the coolest website I've found as a social studies resource. The site is excellently put together, user friendly and has lots of information that everyone can learn from!
  2.  Social Studies for Kids provides a great deal of information on expansive social studies topics. In addition to the information from articles, Social Studies for Kids also includes lots of different games for kids to play and test their knowledge..
  3.  The Kids.gov page on social studies allows children to learn about current events in a safe way. It is through this site that I first discovered Web Rangers.
  4.  MapStats gets children actively interpreting and decoding maps. It's also a great resource for teaching information about statistics.
  5.  The Social Studies page on TIME for Kids' site is a great resource for students to review material through the use of flashcards.
